The final installment of a three-part series covers 1970 to the present, taking the audience on a musical journey to understand and appreciate the contributions of African American musical artists to American music. This journey is educational as well as a source of toe-tapping enjoyment.
We will present an evening on the history of African American music with dynamic narration to tell the story behind the music. Part 3 of this musical journey will continue the soundtrack of US history by covering 1970 to the present. Along the way, audience members will embrace the music of Grover Washington Jr., Al Jarreau, and others of modern and contemporary jazz. Experience the booty-shaking disco era highlighting artists such as Cheryl Lynn and The Trammps. The evening’s performance will present the sounds of Funk with the ever-popular sounds of Parliament-Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone. Listen and enjoy the familiar music we grew up such as Earth, Wind and Fire, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Al Green, and Tupac, to name a few. Be prepared to snap your fingers and tap your feet as you revel in soul music, rhythm and blues, New Jack Swing, Neo-Soul, Hip Hop, and other African American music of our time.
Get ready, get ready, get ready!! This performance will be a musical journey that will take you on a ride to understand and appreciate the contributions of African American music to American society.
